Although Washington State is considered a blue state, it still has a lot of red. Especially as you head east from Seattle to cities like Richland.
From The Seattle Times:
Welcome to Sarah Palin country, 220 miles and a world of politics away from Seattle.
Eastern Washington fans of the former Alaska governor and darling of the Republican right started lining up at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hastings book store here — 26 hours before Palin's scheduled to appear at noon Sunday — just to make sure they'd get her to personally sign her tome, "Going Rogue," selling here for $17.39, plus tax.
By 9:30 Saturday night, some 250 of the faithful were camped outside the store, sitting in lawn chairs, covering themselves with blankets and sleeping bags, warming up with portable propane heaters.
"She stands for what we stand for, which is greatly lacking in Seattle," said Debi Danielson, 54, of Yakima. "Only in Seattle can you come up with a government that has the idea that they know how to do everything."

TOTALLY true. Although I live north of Seattle I LOVE her and have a blog about her - there's a few that LOVE her here too ... but the majority in the west area are demoncraps ... it's sad - they just LOVE spending state money and federal money - any money in fact. :(

Lucy,
The Republicans have been getting mileage off that crap for decades. I remember when Reagan was running for President, someone wrote an article saying that the Republicans don't spend less than the Democrats, they just spend it differently. Reagan and Bush showed the man to be a prophet, racking up record deficits, and spending on the American war machine, while neglecting our kids, our elderly, our infrastucture, and our long-term energy needs.
The GOP can spend with the best of them. The big difference is that the Democrats tend to spend money to improve the quality of life in America, while the Repubs spend to enrich the few and make life miserable for the middle class and especially the poor.
Don't forget that Ron Reagan was pushing to drop a trillion dollars on Star Wars--a system that many defense experts said wouldn't work--but oh well, what's a trillion dollars of the taxpayers' money if it makes the weapons manufacturers rich?
Just thought I would post this thought. At Thanksgiving, we were talking politics with my brother, who is a strident Republican. I asked him if he would vote GOP if Palin were at the head of the ticket. He made a face, then said, "If I were her career coach, I would advise her to go the talk radio route."
There, she can spew her nonsense to her hearts content without knowing what she's talking about.

Right on! Government exists only to build roads and kill people in other countries--and to make the military industrial complex rich.
Those idiot liberals think government should improve our lives.
