The Sarah Palin response

Although the official Republican response to Barack Obama's health care address to Congress came from Louisiana Congressman Charles Boustany, it was Sarah Palin's response that is getting the most attention. She posted it on Facebook late last night -

After all the rhetoric is put aside, one principle ran through President Obama’s speech tonight: that increased government involvement in health care can solve its problems.

Many Americans fundamentally disagree with this idea. We know from long experience that the creation of a massive new bureaucracy will not provide us with “more stability and security,” but just the opposite. It's hard to believe the President when he says that this time he and his team of bureaucrats have finally figured out how to do things right if only we’ll take them at their word.

Our objections to the Democrats’ health care proposals are not mere “bickering” or “games.” They are not an attempt to “score short term political points.” And it’s hard to listen to the President lecture us not to use “scare tactics” when in the next breath he says that “more will die” if his proposals do not pass.

In his speech the President directly responded to concerns I’ve raised about unelected bureaucrats being given power to make decisions affecting life or death health care matters. He called these concerns “bogus,” “irresponsible,” and “a lie” -- so much for civility. After all the name-calling, though, what he did not do is respond to the arguments we’ve made, arguments even some of his own supporters have agreed have merit.

In fact, after promising to “make sure that no government bureaucrat .... gets between you and the health care you need,” the President repeated his call for an Independent Medicare Advisory Council -- an unelected, largely unaccountable group of bureaucrats charged with containing Medicare costs. He did not disavow his own statement that such a group, working outside of “normal political channels,” should guide decisions regarding that “huge driver of cost ... the chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives....” He did not disavow the statements of his health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, and continuing to pay his salary with taxpayer dollars proves a commitment to his beliefs. The President can keep making unsupported assertions, but until he directly responds to the arguments I’ve made, I’m going to call him out too.

It was heartening to hear the President finally recognize that tort reform is an important part of any solution. But this concession shouldn’t lead us to take our eye off the ball: the Democrats’ proposals will not reduce costs, and they will not deliver better health care. It’s this kind of “healthy skepticism of government” that truly reflects a “concern and regard for the plight of others.” We can’t wait to hear the details on that; we look forward to working with you on tort reform.

Finally, President Obama delivered an offhand applause line tonight about the cost of the War on Terror. As we approach the anniversary of the September 11th attacks and honor those who died that day and those who have died since in the War on Terror, in order to secure our freedoms, we need to remember their sacrifices and not demonize them as having had too high a price tag.

Remember, Mr. President, elected officials work for the people. Forcing a conclusion in order to claim a “victory” is not healthy for our country. We hear you say government isn’t always the answer; now hear us -- that’s what we’ve been saying all along.

- Sarah Palin

What you are watching play out is unprecedented in American politics.

Sarah Palin posts a message on Facebook about HealthCare and the President responds before Congress. Sarah Palin then fires back.

This is a debate between Sarah Palin and the President of the United States. And by all accounts - Sarah is winning.

Off course Sarah Palin is winning; she is right and President Obama is wrong.

She is a ‘Patriot’ and “a patriot is always ready to defend their country against their government.” -- Edward Abbey
He is a ‘Politician’ better yet a ‘Lawyer’ and “a politician will do anything to keep his job [or get his way] even become a patriot.” -- William Randolph

She is fighting for the people.
He is fighting with the people.

Sarah Palin has nothing to gain but headaches; in the sense that; if President Obama thinks he was left a mess by President Bush then wait till President Palin has to clean-up President Obama’s disaster.

I feel that Sarah Palin’s response to President Obama’s health care speech is the opinion of mainstream America.

Also I want Sarah Palin to know that the following sentiment:

“We hear you say government isn’t always the answer; now hear us -- that’s what we’ve been saying all along”

is a very good way to connect with the American people.

I CAN'T HELP WONDERING...WHY ARE GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRATS SO EVIL, BUT INSURANCE CO. BUREAUCRATS ARE GOOD? EACH INSURANCE CO. HAS THEIR OWN BUREAUCRACY--HOW VERY EFFICIENT THAT IS. EACH INSURANCE CO. HAS THEIR OWN OBSCENELY-OVERPAID EXECUTIVES...MILLIONS IN SALARY, HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS IN STOCK. EACH COMPANY SPENDS MILLIONS IN MARKETING, SALES, PAYING AGENTS, AND PAYING IDIOTS TO DENY YOUR CLAIMS. HOW COULD GOVT. POSSIBLY COMPETE WITH THIS?

GOOD THINKING SARAH! WHO PAYS YOU TO PUT YOUR NAME ON THIS B.S.?

PSSST. SARAH. LET ME WHISPER THIS TO YOU SO PEOPLE WON'T THINK YOU'RE STUPID. GUESS WHAT. INSURANCE COMPANY BUREAUCRATS ARE ALREADY COMING BETWEEN US AND OUR PROVIDERS. INSURANCE BUREACRATS TELL ME WHAT DOCTORS I CAN SEE, WHAT TREATMENTS THEY CAN PROVIDE, AND THEY EVEN TELL THE DOCS HOW MANY MINUTES THEY CAN SPEND WITH ME (NOT MANY).

HOWEVER, PATRIOTS DON'T PREVENT GOVT FROM HELPING PEOPLE WHO ARE BEING HURT BY GREEDY INSURANCE COMPANIES. CORPORATE SCHILLS DO THAT.

Of course she did! LOL LOL LOL!

Nothing in that statement sounds like it could even have come from the mind of Sarah Palin. Her new ghostwriter should at least study her inflections and try to incorporate the same into her statements - albeit in a much more smooth fashion than Sarah Palin would herself.

As for this being a debate between the President and Palin... she advanced a huge lie and it struck paydirt in paranoia.

President Obama called a lie and lie and a cynical lie at that. It is cynical because Sarah Palin is not so stupid as to believe it to be true.

I doubt that you are, either.

Those of you who are disgruntled by the fact that the insurance companies are "fat cats" ought to be concerned about the fact that they will be getting fatter. Don't you think the insurance companies are just wringing their hands at the thought of millions more people being insured by their companies?

I think any person who stands by Palin, needs their head examined. She disappointed her state, she winks in that camera and refers to grown men as a Maverick. All you ladies where is your pride. Lastly she has no control over her own children, guess we all forgot about her unwed, teen daughter giving birth. Soccer mom my ass. You people are blind.

Where is the brave politician who will stand up and speak the truth about what is happening to our country today and not worry about appearing undistinguished? And I don't mean speak the truth to Republican gatherings. I mean speak to the people who are stealing our freedoms, our property, our future ability to live longer and our very souls? Unfortunately, even Joe Wilson apologized for telling the truth.
Where are the lawsuits from people who had money invested in US companies and either lost it all or most of it because the president GAVE it to someone else? Where is the politician who should be protecting the people from a government who is stealing from its citizens? Doesn't the constitution say we can't have our property stolen from us? WHY should any union now OWN a large percentage of any company??? How can any president (including Bush) give OUR money away & tell banks or companies they don't have to pay us back, but rather that we and our children are in debt for decades or more??? I was raised that is theft. I know the democrats will lose elections for a few decades, but how much will they destroy and steal in just a few years? CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT???

Sarah, can you help us now???

Sarah Palin is winning from Twitter? She single-handedly killed any chance McCain had to win the election and looked completely lost; so much so that that they had to try to hide her from interviews. Do you honestly think she's winning arguments from Twitter against a very intelligent man who came from Harvard? She can’t even answer where she gets her news from or what magazines that she reads. Darn “gotcha” questions…

The only reason her Twitter made headlines was her fame when running for VP and because "death panels" was such an outrageous statement. Honestly, does anyone really believe that? She is an embarrassment to her party and herself. I still can't believe she just quit. Believe me, Democrats would love her on 2012. How about a Cheyney/Palin ticket. That would be hilarious.

The overall agenda needs to be defined by sensible Americans (like Sarah and the rest of us), not loony people like Pelosi, Frank, Waxman and baby Barak.

The real crisis is as follows:

Jobs
The overall economy – GDP growth
Fiscal stability and sensibility

We need for Congress to spend time on our priorities as noted. Until these are addressed, we should not spend much time on health care.

I would suggest no healthcare legislation gets considered until:

Unemployment is below 7%
GDP growth is steady at 2.5% annually
The annual deficit is reduced to less than 5% of GDP

This also means recasting the unspent stimulus dollars toward something effective in creating long-term value, like nuclear power plants.

Health care ideas and reforms can be studied and debated in the interim, but legislation can be actively pursued in chamber only after these other priorities have received sufficient time and attention and these goals have been achieved.

To do anything other is economic suicide and will make health care reform meaningless. Joblessness kills. The greatest source of bankruptcy is not health care but joblessness.

This is what we the people want and our employees in Washington need to start paying attention to our needs or they are going to have to be summarily fired.

Let's demand full attention to our agenda before anything else:

Jobs
The overall economy – GDP growth
Fiscal stability and sensibility

Congress, Barak -- we the people, your employers (not your subjects) order you to adjust your priorities to address the issues noted above before distracting us with a false health care priority.

God is more powerful than any evil pipsqueak like BO is hosting so may God feel free to smite him and his every chance He gets.

You're leading the crusade and we're beside you, behind you and for you all the way to get him ramshackled and out.

We don't want any Anti-Christ, Anti-American, Extreme Islamic Muslim dictating to us what we need to do. America will be better with God/Jesus and without BO. (Although BO is doing an excellent job of bringing Christians back on track)

MY DAD USED TO SAY, IF THE SHOE FITS, WEAR IT. THE GOP OUGHT TO BE WEARING THAT SHOE--OF COURSE, SOMETIMES, THEY'RE DUCKING SHOES, AS IN G.W. BUSH, WHO GOT A COUPLE LOAFERS WINGED HIS WAY AFTER HIS LIES KILLED TENS OF THOUSANDS OF IRAQIS.

Kim Overall,

Barrack's father was Muslim. His mom was Christian and he is Christian. I would also like to point out that this country isn't a theocracy and there is supposed to be a separation between church and state.

People like you scare the hell out of me. Injecting religion to this discussion and fabricating that Obama is an Islamic radical when he is a Christian like you is really pathetic. Clearly you subscribe to the mantra "Don't let the facts get in the way of a belief."

It's religious crazed people like you that are bringing down your party... well that and George Bush. I respect all religions because no one really knows what the truth is about God. Every religion has disturbing things in it. For you to ask God to smite the "evil" Obama shows that you are no different than the Islamic fundamentalists that you don't like.

How is Barrack evil? Because he's Islamic in your mind even though he's not? So he's evil and he wants healthcare for everyone. Republicans, the party of extremist Christians, don't want healthcare for everyone because they don't want to foot the bill. Is that how Jesus teaches you to believe in the Bible? Would He want people to die because they couldn't afford healthcare? But Barrack is evil and should be killed by God and you and people like you are good and speak for God. Give me a break you hypocrite.

Jesus was against the wealthy and an advocate for the poor. In fact, he said it would be harder for wealthy people to get into heaven. Yet the base for Republicans are the wealthy who get tons of loopholes from Republican presidents and the extremist religious Christians who would rather poor people die than have any of their tax money go towards healthcare and saving their lives. People like you believe it’s better for the poor to suffer and die. Go read the Bible and practice what you preach and stop preaching hate and lies. If you’re a Christian, great. Nothing wrong with that. Just do me a favor and read the Bible and follow what it teaches. I’m fairly certain it doesn’t teach to smite Christian presidents because you disagree with their politics.

The picture of Sarah Palin and obama side by side, show me that
God's light is shining through Sarah and
obama is spiritually DEAD.
The difference in their beliefs and ideals as different as heaven and hell.
God bless Sarah, Todd and their precious family in the name of our Lord Christ Jesus.

Sarah Palin is winning? In your fantasies. She is trivial. She was a punch line, but now hardly anyone remembers her.

Anonymous said...

Love the Girl,

What are you even talking about? You look at a picture and you see who is spiritual from that and can see that Obama is dead spiritually? You are dilusional.

Can someone please explain how Obama is the anti-christ and evil and Palin (who has been under investigation several times for misconduct in office) is this beacon of light from God?

I was born and raised Catholic but my beliefs are non-denominational since all religions seem man-made and tainted by human beliefs at the time the religions were created. Those of you turning Obama and Palin into a God versus the devil and making it all about religion honestly need to seek psychiatric help.

I respect your belief in God but Obama is a Christian. Those of you calling him a Muslim extremist and evil are preaching hate and lies. I don't know if you are prejudice because his father was Muslim, he is black, or because he is a Democrat (and they are all athiests because they aren't super religious usually right?)?

For Christians, you people posting sure are judgemental and full of hate. Is that how Jesus was? I guess you guys are more Old Testament than New Testament. You're also all crazy. I wish I had your special abilities to look at pictures and see who is good and spiritual and who is evil and dead inside. To see God's light shining through Palin in a picture is amazing. Do the pictures talk to you too and tell you who is good or evil or do you only have special vision?

Here's what I'd like to see Gov. Palin address:

1) The gov't started pumping money into education years ago. What happened? Did our educational system get better? Uh-huh... Instead, we got elementary schools that somehow have to ask kids to bring their own basic supplies, while taxes that pay for schools are through the roof. And, almost no student from an average family can afford to go to college without government assistance. (This is called "dependency" and "control".)

The gov't decided to "help" people by, essentially, pouring money into housing. The result? Skyrocketing home prices, and a "bubble" that had to eventually pop. Even after the pricing collapse, today, the vast majority of new mortgage holders get financial help from the gov't in order to buy a home. Again: Dependency and control.

Over the last few decades, our gov't has poured ever more money into assisting citizens with health care costs. What happened? Health care costs rose, and rose, and rose, to the point where fewer people than ever can afford health care, without gov't assistance. (This despite the fact that most people have more of their income available to spend on health care, than ever.) The ultimate result (need I say it again)? More and more people with a dependency on & (essentially) economic and political control by the gov't.

How do we help the relative few who truly cannot help themselves, without these results? And how do we reverse this mess?

2) The other side of the health care cost problem is, at it's core, a problem of supply and demand. NO ONE is addressing this in an effective and palatable way. Obama & the Dems address it by, essentially, crapping on the product, to reduce demand. But then they also claim (essentially) they are going to add 30(?) or 47(?) million people to the pool doing the demanding of the product. The Republicans fiddle around the edges a bit with costs (tort reform, for example.) But I see no comprehensive plan that would make a BIG difference, from them.

The crazy thing is, "supply" could be addressed, now. It would take a while to work, but, then again, if Hillary had worked on it (instead of going socialist) back in the '90's, problems with health care costs would probably be, oh, about 16th on our national list of things to worry about.

So, Gov. Palin, if you are listening: You used to be a basketball player. Your opponent has left you a lane to the basket. Here is the ball...
