A Grandmother who owns her own defense contracting business in Hunstville, Alabama is the winner of the EBay auction to have dinner with Sarah Palin.
Cathy Maples bid $63,500. The money will go to a charity that helps wounded veterans.
Maples told the Associated Press -
"I thought it was an extremely good cause, and also I'm a big advocate for Sarah Palin. I think she has a lot of morals, and I would love to see her as president of our country."
All in all, the Ride 2 Recovery program, which supports wounded veterans through cycling programs, raised over $95,000 in their online auction. There ere 9 other items offered, but dinner with Sarah Plin went for the most money - by far. (Dinner with Karl Rove went for $16,000.)
The money will help support the organization's programs, like the Golden State Challenge, where 150 wounded veterans will bicycle from San Francisco to Los Angeles along the Pacific Coast Highway. The challenge starts Oct. 4.
Seven people placed 61 bids over the 10-day run of the auction, which had a minimum bid of $25,000. Maples will have to foot the bill to meet up with Palin for dinner, likely in Alaska. She wouldn't have any problems making another trip north. "I love Alaska," she said.
Maples is allowed to bring four people to dinner. She says the plan right now is to bring her two grandchildren, 13 and 18 years old, their mother and the 18-year-old's girlfriend.
Maples went on to say that she would like to see Sarah Palin become President someday.
You will remember that Keith Olbermann tried to bid the minimum of $25,000 dollars live on MSNBC (see video below). Olbermann balked when he found out there would be a background check. Maples said that check will not be a problem for her or her family.
Be warned before you watch this video of Olbermann bidding - Shannyn Moore is also in the video in a split screen. The image of both Olbermann and Moore together may be too much for small children, those with heart conditions and those with any common sense.
