A Veteran Political Analyst Thinks Palin is Running For President

Kieth Olbermann calls her "Governor Quitter," echoing the left's new attack on Sarah Palin.

You have probably read the talking points by now - Sarah Palin is finished - She is out of the race in 2012 - Palin committed political suicide.

But one of the most respected, independent political analyst in the country says the move is smart - its is absolutely necessary if Palin wants to run in 2012

Charlie Cook is creator of “The Cook Political Report,” an absolute must read for campaign strategists in Washington. Cook believes Palin is resigning to build a major campaign organization for 2012. That takes time and would have been impossible to do from Alaska.

”A good case can be made that seeking a presidential nomination has become an extraordinarily difficult undertaking in terms of organization-building, fundraising and cultivating the relationships necessary to win,” Cook writes. “And perhaps doing that well and being an effective governor are mutually exclusive.”

“Would Palin really get that many more "experience points" for sticking around Juneau, if it meant missing a lot of gripping and grinning at Lincoln Day dinners and other state and local party functions?

Think about it. Running for President is a full-time job. Others in the Republican party, like Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, already have a head start in campaigning. Had Palin stayed in office for the remaining 18 months as a lame-duck Governor would leave her vulnerable to the politically motivated ethics complaints and would significantly hamper her fundraising abilities.

“She has already punched her ticket as governor; would she really get that many more 'experience points' for sticking around Juneau, if it meant missing a lot of gripping and grinning at Lincoln Day dinners and other state and local party functions, or headlining fundraising events for Republican candidates?

“Finally, it appears that Sarah and Todd Palin are not people of great wealth, and it's a decent bet that they would have little income during 2011 and 2012, with the two of them campaigning full time,” Cook writes. “My hunch is that -- to the extent that she could bank some serious change over the next year and a half by speaking, writing a book or what have you -- it would make their lives easier in 2011 and 2012.”

“The bottom line is that Palin, who was a relative nobody in the party one year ago, has little time to waste putting together a 50-state effort,” Cook concludes. “This move gives her an additional year and a half to do it.”

You can read all of Charlie Cook's thoughts at the National Journal by clicking here.

Cook also wrote this in an email to CQ Politics: "Someone might be an effective governor or a serious candidate but not both. So I see this as a shrewd move."

I will take veteran political analyst Charlie Cook's take on Sarah Palin's move over a former local sports anchor turned left wing hack Kieth Olberman anyday.

“The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 32% of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-seven percent (37%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of –5.
The number who strongly disapprove inched up another point to the highest level measured to date and the overall Approval Index: 52 approve to 48 disapprove is at the lowest level yet for Obama.”

Gov. Palin; don’t think you had nothing to do with these wonderful ratings.

“In January, assessing the beating Republicans took in November, the plurality of GOP voters (43%) said their party has been too moderate over the past eight years, and 55% said it should become more like Palin in the future.” Rasmussen Reports

"Even just before Election Day, Republicans were happier with Palin than with McCain, the party’s presidential nominee." Rasmussen Reports

I believe Gov. Palin is having a tremendous impact. In April at least 4 different polls found that for the first time in 15 years, the majority of people consider themselves to be pro-life. Polls in August 2008, found the majority to be pro-choice. Why the big change? I don't think it was all due to Palin, but I suspect that since she is now essentially the face of the pro-life movement, she undoubtedly has had an impact.

In May 2 stay at home moms in AZ won local elections. Both are members of Smart Girl Politics a group that was formed of women inspired by Palin's VP run.

Just since her announced resignation, Palin's Facebook has gained close to 100,000 new "friends," her Twitter account has more than doubled to 88,000, and Team Sarah has gained over 1,000 new members.

An article yesterday says that there has been an upsurge of traffic on SarahPAC, Palin's fundraising site.

If things keep going as they are, she will be a powerful in 2010 to campaign for a GOP comeback, and be almost unstoppable in the 2012 primaries.

Gov. Palin
I’m listening to all this talk about your appeal or disapproval with the different parties; including all their factions and appearing at events around the country trying to raise money for others.
Forget all of this madness!
There’s an old saying “He who has the gold makes the rules” – You are solid Gold, so make the rules, and make them bums crawl to you; don’t go to them.
Run as a “Sara Palin American”
What is a Sara Palin American?
Man or women – only qualification necessary; American?

Look at what has just happened.
President Obama had it right; “Change” the only problem is President Obama didn’t change.
When you go to the people, don’t tell them what you are going to do for them, ask them what they want.
They will tell you and then make you the President of the United States.

“I Quit”
I’ve read the official statement from Gov. Palin - No. 09-167
And no where in the statement does it say “I Quit” or even allude to quitting.
As a matter of record Gov. Palin stressed reluctantly that she would “relegate” the position to her lieutenant based on reasons [ REASON - By reason is usually understood as the power by which we distinguish truth from falsehood, and right from wrong; and by which we are enabled to combine means for the attainment of particular ends. - Lectric Law Library] Gov. Palin stated, “…to embrace the conventional ‘Lame Duck’ status in this particular climate would just be another dose of ‘politics as usual…” – “…I am willing to change things…” – “…I look forward to helping others – to fight for our state and our country…” is a valid reason to relegate her position, based on her decision not to seek a second term.

I suggest that Gov. Palin’s ability to make difficult decisions is not only competent but in this situation; Right.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 30% of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of –8.
Thirty-nine percent (39%) now give the President good or excellent marks for handling the economy while 43% say he is doing a poor job.

President Obama’s poll ratings are sinking like a dead fish.

OMG – Gov. Palin; keep your eyes open when you go out fishing, you may see President Obama.

I still say; you are “in part” responsible for these refreshing polling numbers.
