Where is the Outrage over Palin Church Burning?

Eighteen Days and all is eerily quiet in the search for the hateful person or people who set the Wasilla Baptist Church on fire and left it in charred ruins.

Eighteen days and no update on the investigation.

Eighteen days and no follow up news reports.

Eighteen days and nothing.

Where is the outrage?!?!?

Forget for a moment that this was Sarah Palin's Church. Forget for a moment that it is even a Church. There were women and children inside the structure when pure evil doused it with gasoline and set it on fire.

It was attempted murder in its most despicable form. The people or person who did this didn't care if there were people inside or who they were or if they were children. They were driven by hate. If anyone died, so be it. They would have been collateral damage of a macabre rage.

Whether the target was the Church or Sarah Palin or the beliefs both represent, make no mistake about it, the motivation was hate.

We are told the FBI and the ATF are involved with the investigation, but have not seen or heard from either. If and when charges ever come, a federal hate crime should be among them. If not, a state hate crime as the Alaska statute on hate crime clearly "criminalizes destruction of real or personal property belonging to religious or charitable organizations."

I have received several emails accusing authorities and the media of ignoring this story because of a bias against Sarah Palin and her religion. Carlos Echeverria posted this message:

"If it would have been Jeremiah Wright's den of hate, Barry's church for 20 yrs, then it would be on every night headline news, with activists, congressman/woman, etc. screaming and vociferating.

Someone would have been arrested by now, but since it's Palin they don't give a hoot."

I had hoped that wasn't true about Local and Federal Authorities investigating the crime. But I can't help believing that if there was more media pressure, there would be more results.

The people who "don't give a hoot" are the people at the networks and newspapers who are not covering this crime. The same people who still love to take a swipe at Sarah Palin, knowing her name alone gets ratings and sells papers. But they like her as an easy target, not for any real news. They have been covering Sarah Palin much the same way they cover Brittany Spears or Paris Hilton, with a giggle and a wink.

But it wasn't always that way. When Sarah Palin first hit the scene, the vitriolic coverage of the Governor of Alaska was and will forever be an embarrassment to the American Media. The collective mainstream media monster attacked everything about the woman - her motherhood, her children, her beliefs - and yes - her Church.

There may be a feeling among the mainstream press that Sarah Palin has been minimized to the point where they can give her the celebutant treatment. That's okay. Sarah has a strong base of supporters away from the urban media bubbles where national reporters, editors and anchors syphon their opinions.

Like the Wasilla Bible Church, it will seems to passive observers that Sarah Palin rose like a Phoenix out of the ashes when she re-invents herself on the National Stage. But in truth, like the Wasilla Bible Church, she won't have to rise because the attacks did nothing but strengthen the resolve of her followers. In truth neither the Church nor Sarah Palin have to rise above anything because their attackers did little damage to what they stand for.

But, the act itself must be punished.

Investigators say gasoline was the accelerant. I would argue that the accelerant was poured on the church months ago by the media who unfairly attacked the Church and its most prominent congregant.

The media was irresponsible and stoked the fires of hate. It has a chance to now act responsibly and pressure investigators for answers about a suspect and motive.

I fear I am a voice alone. That you will hear nothing but a soft crackling in the distance from the mainstream media, the sound of a fire they helped set, of hate they helped stoke, that is still smoldering without anyone to try and put it out.

Excellent post. Ms. Palin's uncanny ability to enrage scum may well be a virtue.

Now we know who they are.

Just for accuracy sake, this was a church that Gov. Palin attended, but it was not her church. She is not a member. She told an interviewer during the campaign that she was not a church member.

If she attends it - she's pretty much a member - except for signing up officially - maybe even the church doesn't have official membership?
Where's the outrage - there is little - b'c it's the Christians - and you know and I know that the liberals think we DESERVE whatever we get - b'c we shouldn't EVEN be involved in ANYTHING political.

Instead of blaming the media ("The media was irresponsible and stoked the fires of hate."), perhaps you should 1) let the investigation run its course and 2) stop assuming it was burned because of Sarah Palin! Do you have any evidence it the fire was set due to Sarah Palin? Such as a note or anything left at the scene with Palin's name on it? If you do, then perhaps you should contact the authorities up in Alaska and provide such evidence. Plenty of arsons (churches and other buildings) are committed nation-wide. They don't all need to be on the national news, just like this one.
