There are some who have compared Sarah Palin to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Of course, the left and the elite have chuckled at the comparison because they are on mission to destroy Sarah's chances.
It is worth reading John O'Sullivan's piece in the Wall Street Journal. O'Sullivan was a special adviser to Thatcher, knows her quite well, and sees a lot of Thatcher in Palin. Here is an excerpt:
She has obvious intelligence, drive, serious moral character, and a Reaganesque likability. Her likely Republican rivals such as Bobby Jindal and Mitt Romney, not to mention Barack Obama, have most of these same qualities too. But she shares with Mrs. Thatcher a very rare charisma. As Ronnie Millar, the latter's speechwriter and a successful playwright, used to say in theatrical tones: She may be depressed, ill-dressed and having a bad hair day, but when the curtain rises, out onto the stage she steps looking like a billion dollars. That's the mark of a star, dear boy. They rise to the big occasions.
Mrs. Palin had four big occasions in the late, doomed Republican campaign: her introduction by John McCain in Ohio, her speech at the GOP convention, her vice-presidential debate with Sen. Joe Biden, and her appearance on Saturday Night Live. With minimal preparation, she rose to all four of them. That's the mark of a star.
If conservative intellectuals, Republican operatives and McCain "handlers" can't see it, then so much the worse for them.

The difference between Palin and Thatcher, of course, is that Palin has the same "movie star" look and quality that Reagan had. Thatcher, although incredibly charismatic, never had the look. And Thatcher never had the quality that Palin and Reagan have instinctively that tells America they are one of us and not part of the Washington crowd. Reagan did it with a smile, a joke and a shake of the head. Palin does it with a smile and a wink and a "you betcha."
Palin could be the whole package. She has to work on one more thing.
She has 4 or 8 years to find a simple but strong belief system like Reagan. The Great President found four strong Conservative principles and never wavered from them -
1) America is the greatest country in the world, Democracy is the greatest system of Government.
2) Government is too big and should shrink
3) Taxes should be lowered
4) Our military must always be prepared to defend America
Four very simple principles that he went back to on every argument. It gave him a foundation of strength and honesty built on something that is lacking in Today's politics's - principle.
You always knew what Reagan believed in and he never wavered. You always knew what Thatcher believed in and she never wavered.
In a time of focus groups, negative campaigns and polling, I long for Reagan again. Maybe it can be Sarah Palin. Again, she already has many of the Reagan and Thatcher qualities, has four or eight years to complete the package.

Great post, I appreciate and share your analysis.
I want Palin to be POTUS 45, but it might be in '16, as opposed to '12, not because I have any desire for BHO to stay around that long, but just because uncontrollable factors (along with the MSM & monied interests) will go full force to insure his re-election.
Gov. Palin already believes in the four strong Conservative principles that were outlined in the article.
More like Golda Meir.
