A Columnist Who Gets Sarah Palin

From the day she was announced as John McCain's running mate, one prominent newspaper columnist has been pro-Palin. His name is Ruben Navarrette Jr. He writes for the San Diego Union-Tribune and is one of the most prominent Latino columnists in America.

He is a wonderful writer who understands the Sarah Palin appeal.

Navarrette argues that it is not Republican versus Democrat, Blue versus Red or even Conservative versus Liberal. It is urban versus rural.

The attack on Sarah Palin was an attack on small town values. And the thing that really ticked off the elite in New York, LA and Washington is that Palin embraced those values and did not want to change.

Navarrette uses this Palin quote in his column:

"I got my education from the University of Idaho because that's what I could afford," she said. "No, I don't come from the self-proclaimed 'movers and shakers' group and that's fine with me. It's caused me, or rather, allowed me, to work harder and pull myself up by my bootstraps without anyone else helping me. I think it allows me to be in touch with the vast majority of Americans who are in the same position that I am."

Amen to that.

And as proof that there is this divide and that Palin was attacked for it, Navarrette uses this gem from political traitor Colin Powell:
"I think [Palin] had something of a polarizing effect when she talked about how small-town values are good," Powell said. "Well, most of us don't live in small towns. And I was raised in the South Bronx, and there's nothing wrong with my value system from the South Bronx."

First of all, Powell was wrong. Most Americans live in or come from small towns. Second, as Navarette points out, the urban, liberal philosophy was not under attack. Sarah Palin was for daring to be a woman who has Conservative Social values, who believed in small town America.

Palin is frightening to the status quo and that is why the attacks on her will continue over the next few years. That is why there were so many lies about her spread on the Internet as fact.

And that is why it is so god to have a man like Ruben Navarrette who has the courage of his own convictions and does not bow to the pressure of his media colleagues to walk lock-step in thought and attack all who disagree.

You can read his column on Sarah by http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/24/navarrette.palin.smalltown/?iref=mpstoryview (He is a special contributor to CNN.)

And you can write to Ruben at ruben.navarrette@uniontrib.com.

Let him know that you appreciate his support of Sarah Palin and his bravery of free thought and expression.

I was watching Sarah during an interviw with Wolf Blitzer today.

Twice, she used the verb "progress" improperly. She said twice, "We are going to progress this country forward."

Sorry, wrong.

When "progress" is used as a verb there is no object.

According to dictionary.com, "progress" is a verb and a noun. As a verb,

"–verb (used without object) progress 10. to go forward or onward in space or time: The wagon train progressed through the valley. As the play progressed, the leading man grew more inaudible. 11. to grow or develop, as in complexity, scope, or severity; advance: Are you progressing in your piano studies? The disease progressed slowly.
—Idiom 12. in progress, going on; under way; being done; happening: The meeting was already in progress."

Her mis-use of the American English language is an abomination and therefore she would not make an appropriate national leader.

As we knew like his support for the unnecessary elective fraudulent Iraq war, McCain's judgment in choosing Palin as his running mate was very poor and way off track. Detachment from reality is never good when people's lives are at stake.

That's my opinion.

Frank in Miami.

What about the Obamanations misuse of words?

Like removing our troops from Iraq in 16 months? Or how about them 57 states Obie visited?

What about those fallen soldiers, Frank? “Our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today.”

Who calls an unborn baby 'a punishment'? Oh, that would be the quisling-elect.

How many 'arabic translators' do we need in Afghanistan, Frank?

Where was that tornado that killed 10,000 or was it a dozen people??

My well reasoned opinion finds Frank in Miami to be a blithering idiot.
