Senator Sarah Palin

Watch the recount of votes in Alaska very carefully.

If Sentor Ted Stevens wins re-election, he is expected to either be expelled from the Senate or resign. Stevens has been convicted of 7 felonies relating to abuse of his office.

Governor Sarah Palin could then call for a special election within 60 to 90 days.

Palin has said in the past that she is not even thinking about the Senate. But today she told Roll Call Magazine that she would consider running if she believed that Alaskans want to send her to Washington. “I just don’t want to close any doors at this point," she said.

Palin used the same “door” metaphor last week when discussing a possible run for the White House in 2012 or 2016, saying: “If there is an open door in '12 or four years later, and if it is something that is going to be good for my family, for my state, for my nation, an opportunity for me, then I'll plow through that door.”

Well, rev up the plow because it looks like Mrs. Palin is going to Washington.

Right now in the recount, Senator Stevens trails Democrat Mark Begich by 1,002 votes with 24 thousand absentee and questioned ballots to still be looked at.

If Stevens wins, the Senate race will be the first step in Sarah Palin running for President, whether the Republican Party or the Media like it or not.

She is a force to be reckoned with because of a loyal and passionate national base, something that few candidates have these days.

I would love to see Sarah Palin in Washington as a US Senator.
