Another Good Ol' Boy Is Afraid Of Sarah Palin

Poor Newt Ginrgich.

He is scared to death of Sarah Palin.

Newt fancies himself a leader of the Republican Party. He is not.

Newt himself was unfairly demonized by the Democrats after taking leading the charge to take Congress in 1994.

So he should no better than to take down one of his own. Today on Face The Nation, Newt tried to take the wind out of Sarah Palin's sails. "I think that she is going to be a significant player. But she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.”

Then Gingrich sang the praises of Utah Governor John Huntsman, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.

So what is going on here? First and foremost, it is very possible that Gingrich is sexist. Have you ever heard him mention a woman as a viable candidate for anything? And you'll remember that Newt hasn't exactly treated the women in his life well, he has an extramarital affair and a bitter divorce in his past. he has not treated women either professionally or personally with much respect.

Next, there is the fact that Newt sees himself as rising from the dead to be a party leader. Many in the party, including the Governor's that Newt touted, are upset that Palin is sucking up all the air. No one else gets noticed when Sarah Palin is in the room. Newt only helps himself with dozes of other aspiring Republican leaders by tempering the Palin after-effect. Sarah Palin is in Alaska, an outsider. Those other Republicans he sees and talks with a lot.

Finally, with the rise and fall of John McCain, a Republican moderate and maverick, there is a cry in the Republican party to head back to its Conservative base. There is even talk about Gingrich running in 2012. He could have been just campaigning against his chief rival.

Sarah Palin's media barrage has been brilliant and it is not over yet.

Palin appeals to Conservatives, Pro Lifers, Gun Owners, Women and Evangelicals. That is a powerful coalition in the Republican party, enough to win the nomination.

Watch for a lot of wolves to come out of the forest to try and take Palin down a bit. Newt was just the first to show his fangs. But does that really surprise you?
