The First debate between McCain and Obama was a ratings disappointment. Of the last nine Presidential elections, it ranks 7th among the first debates in the campaign. The Carter-Reagan debate in 1980 was the highest.
But, this Thursday night when Joe Biden and Sarah Palin face off, Variety predicts it will be the highest rated Presidential Debate ever and may just over-shadow the Presidential debate.
And it is all because of Sarah.
Although she has been ridiculed by the Media, she is still popular on the campaign trail, drawing bigger crowds than any of the candidates. Last week 60 thousand showed up to hear her speak in Florida.
Plus, for better or worse, she has become a Pop Icon already with dozens of spoofs on YouTube and a starring role on Saturday Night Live.
Also, because she has been hidden away except for her Convention Speech, which was a huge success, and three network interviews, where she has had awful moments, people want to see her on the debate stage.
The debate audience will be much like a NASCAR audience, some will be cheering for a good contest, others are there hoping for a train wreck.
Here is the bottom line: The expectations for Sarah Palin are so low that she just has to hold her own to look good. And, if a miracle happens, and she outperforms Joe Biden, then the questions about Sarah Palin are over and the McCain ticket gets a big boost.
Remember, Joe Biden is knowledgeable and verbose, but he is prone to verbal blunders.
If he makes one of his famous gaffes, THAT could be the story of the debate and Palin may look good in contrast.
But it is clear, the world will be watching.

It seems like they are both prone to gaffes: Biden all the time, Palin, well, in every interview she's done.
In a way it's a battle of extremes: Biden's knowledge and experience vs. Palin's personality and inexperience on the national stage.
The old hand vs. the new blood. It should certainly be an interesting debate, and will most likely be entertaining as well, which I why I guess everyone is looking forward to it.
Debate-firsts will be at http://garlinggauge.com this Thursday during the debate.
I dont care about the haters. Palin is one hot little mommy. I was hard core democrat until she showed up. Wow...what titties. I think she has the best titties of any politician and Im voting for McCain because of her titties!
